Massage Benefits
Why do I hurt?
Muscular injury causes a chain reaction that begins with vasoconstriction, or narrowing of the blood vessels in the affected area. While this is helpful in limiting blood flow and reducing bruising, it also causes muscle tissue to tighten. When muscle tissue becomes hypertonic (tight), toxins such as Lactic, Pyruvic, and Hyaluronic acids can become trapped due to reduced circulation called Ischemia. These naturally occurring acids cause pain because they are neuro-exciters, meaning that they increase nerve sensitivity. That's why it hurts.

Different Types of Therapies
Neuromuscular Therapy + Myofascial
A specific form of bodywork that requires advanced training in Anatomy, Physiology, Kinesiology, and Palpation. This treatment is helpful for chronic pain and improving the function of the musculoskeletal system. This works from the top more superficial layers of fascial tissue, then slowly going deeper into the tighter connections of neuromuscular holding patterns.
Trigger Point + Deep Tissue
A method of bodywork designed to release nodules in taut bands of muscle fiber. Commonly called “knots,” these nodules are responsible for local and referred pain within the muscles and joints. This treatment can be helpful for chronic pain and improving the function of the musculoskeletal system.
Swedish Massage
The most common form of massage therapy. It's used for relaxation - smooth and gentle strokes are often used for stress relief and full-body restoration. This treatment can be helpful for circulation and relieving overall tension stored within the body.
